Android and storage

Google recently forced app developers to be compliant with a new way of storing data on recent Android devices. If you upgraded your device after Apr 2021, you could be affected by the following issues:

  • Mnemosyne can no longer access the old location where your data was stored. Therefore, you should redownload your cards from your server, and delete your old data (typically in /sdcard/mnemosyne) to save space. (In case you updated before you had a chance to sync, you can always install an old version, sync, and then upgrade.) In the future, whenever you uninstall Mnemosyne, Android will delete its database as well.
  • You are no longer allowed access to Mnemosyne's data using an Android file manager. Therefore, Mnemosyne offers two new menu options (for expert users): one to export your data (database, backup, history, ...) to a shared storage location, and one to import them back from a shared location.
